The Real Dance: A Micro Reality TV Show is a web series that approaches contemporary dancemaking through the low-stakes, high-investment aesthetic & entertainment lens of reality TV, focusing on the daily lives, dramas, and backstories of people who make dance.
Episode 2 follows the process of two queer people creating a new dance duet that explores codependence and interdependence at the intersection of relationships and artmaking.

'Silent Rhythm' - 30:00 (USA)

This short documentary explores the relationship dancers have with music, especially when none of the dancers can hear the music. The Gallaudet Dance Company is home to a small dance studio that pushes the meaning of dance beyond the scope of sound. This year marked a specific turning point for the program, as half the dancers are graduating, and their dance company director Sue Gill-Doleac is also retiring after 44 years.

Family, community, and deaf culture are the major themes explored as the dancers and their director prepare for their last spring concert and life after Gallaudet.

'Vanishing Seattle: The Beacon' - 15:00 (USA)

In 2013, members of the Massive Monkees, Seattle’s acclaimed breaking crew, opened The Beacon Studio in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.

After many successful years of growth and development in the dance community, the studio closed in 2020 with uncertainty of whether it would ever reopen.

This is the story of The Beacon’s comeback in a city of vanishing mainstays.

Vanishing Seattle Films is a documentary series that takes a deeper dive into the stories of history, legacy, and resilience behind the #VanishingSeattle hashtag. Each film focuses on a small business or community space significant to a Seattle neighbourhood and community.
