Join Lucy as she shares her experience on the exploration of different choreographic approaches for dance film and transmuting personal story into dance as she talks through her process for the creation her ‘Dancing For Jane’ film series, created as a tribute to her Mum who lost her struggle with breast cancer.
The workshop will conclude with an open Q&A.
Lucy Doherty is a Sydney-based dance artist & choreographer who started making dance films after losing her mother Jane to breast cancer in 2014. Her ‘Dancing For Jane’ film project is an ongoing series of dance films in tribute to her mum, marking the anniversary of her passing as well as reflecting on Lucy’s own personal journey with grief and loss. This personal project has enabled Lucy to both discover and contribute to the world of dance film – with her film’s being screened and celebrated both nationally & internationally including at the Lincoln Centre in New York City & on global arts screening platform Marquee TV. Lucy has been nominated for two Australian Dance Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Dance on Film and was the winner of Best Australian Dance Film at the 2020 Inspired Dance Film Festival.
